INSIGHTS & CLIENT STORIES

Can Spanish and Latin American music help you learn Spanish?

…and it is fun to learn the language while bopping along to the catchy tunes of “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee (featuring Justin Bieber) and “Súbeme la Radio” by Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias. And let us not forget “The Ketchup Song” by Las Ketchup (2002) released here in a ‘Spanglish’ version and the “Macarena” by Los del Río (1995).

Originally released in Spanish by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and rapper Daddy Yankee, “Despacito” (meaning “Slowly”) has become popular in English-speaking countries with a remix version featuring Justin Bieber, who sang in Spanish for the first time in his career on the track.   In July 2017, “Despacito” became the world’s most streamed song of all time with 4.6 billion streams.

There are lots of website offering translations of popular song lyrics, but Spanishdict.com shows the Spanish lyrics alongside the English meaning, helping you to pick up the vocabulary of your favourite songs.
